Christchurch Primary School Spring 2021 Remote Education Guide

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education where national or local restrictions require entire cohorts to remain at home.

All remote education will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom. Children have a Wonde login to enable them access to their Google Classroom and many other educational apps such as TT Rockstars. Pupils have been given their username (first name, surname) and a copy of their login (either an emoji password or normal password). Please ensure you keep this login safe in the event of your child having to access remote education.  

Please note that we do not expect work to be completed by children who are unwell.

Individual class / year group is isolating or whole school is required to switch to remote education:

How will my child be taught remotely?

• Pupils will be taught through a range of approaches, including:
  • Live Teaching Sessions. Teachers will inform pupils when their Google Meet sessions will happen. This will give an opportunity for a class teacher to interact with the class for example introducing a topic, teaching new skills or reading story. Please note that teachers will not be expected to ‘live’ teach all day, every day.
  •  Recorded teaching e.g. from the class teacher or other sources
  •  Work Assignments
  •  Reading books that pupils may have at home
  •  Research
  •  Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subject or areas, including video clips or sequences

• Each day, work will be posted on to the Google Classroom in the following subject areas:
• Maths
• English
• Topic work/Foundation subject area
• Suggested Reading and Well-being activities
• (Reception will have a number of activities relating to their areas of learning)

• We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have had to make some adaptions in some subjects e.g. Science, P.E.

• Children will be able to upload their work to the Google Classroom page. For most year groups pupils will be able to ‘turn in’ an assignment to their class teacher. For younger year groups, parents could take a photo of their child’s work and upload it to the Google Classroom.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

• A weekly timetable will be sent to parents as a guide. This will be posted on the Google Classroom page
• Pupils will be expected to work for at least 3 hours each day

• It is vital that all pupils engage in remote learning. We would encourage all parents to try to keep to a good routine and schedule however we do understand that this is not always possible.
• All pupils will be asked to register and submit work. The school will contact parents if we are aware that pupils are not engaging. We will offer support and advice.

• Teachers will provide feedback on selected pieces of work. There will be personalised feedback that supports progress in learning on at least two pieces of work throughout a week.
• A variety of feedback techniques will be used:
  • Written comments
  • Recorded verbal comments
  • Verbal feedback during live sessions
  • Whole class feedback
  • Group feedback
  • Work which is automatically marked via digital platforms

• We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. If you need support with a device or with online access, please contact us.

Additional support for pupils with particular needs:

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

• We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:
• Pupils will be provided with learning packs. These will have resources that support their needs
• Teaching staff will differentiate work in Google classroom to meet the needs of pupils (where appropriate)
• The school SENCo will call parents fortnightly to check on pupils and families

What to expect if an:

• A weekly home learning document will be uploaded to your child’s Google Classroom. This will provide Maths, English and other subject activities in line with your child’s curriculum.

Guide for Parents – Nursery

• Weekly home learning will be sent via Parenthub covering all EYFS areas of learning.
• Story time sessions will also happen via Zoom during the week. The link for this will be posted on Parenthub.

How to Access Remote Learning

Step 1: Load the Christchurch Primary school website

Step 2: Click on Quick Links > Wonde

 Step 3: You will now be asked to type in your school’s name and then log in using your emojis or password.

You will then be taken to a page where it will automatically log into your:

• Spelling shed
• TT Rockstars
• Google classrooom
