Emotional Wellbeing/Supporting Mental Health/Positive Mental Health
At Christchurch Primary we believe that a happy child is a successful one therefore emotional wellbeing and mental health are at the heart of our aspirations. We aim to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our whole school community - children, staff, parents and carers. Mental health and wellbeing is embedded across the curriculum to allow us to nurture mentally healthy and happy children who are ready to take on the challenges they may face in school and beyond.
In addition to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing, we aim to recognise and respond to need as it arises. By developing and implementing practical, relevant and effective mental health and wellbeing policies and procedures, we can promote a safe and stable environment for pupils affected both directly, and indirectly by mental health and wellbeing issues. We aim to ensure that our pupils are supported to reach their potential or access help when they need it. We also ensure that children learn about what they can do to maintain positive mental health, what affects their mental health, how they can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and where they can go if they need help and support.
We promote a mentally healthy environment by:
- Promoting our school values and encouraging a sense of belonging
- Promoting pupil voice and opportunities to participate in decision-making
- Celebrating academic and non-academic achievements
- Providing opportunities to develop a sense of worth through taking responsibility for themselves and others
- Providing opportunities to reflect
- Access to appropriate support that meets their needs
